Here we are with another spring Zoo-bento box, this time is Asia’s turn.
My poor Asia tried any trick to eat the food around her, but at the end Vivace was the only lucky official taster.

Once again thanks Sweetbento for the amazing job you did with my characters ♥

Sunday sweet Sunday

119- the-intruder-(nextlola)

Sunday it’s the only day of the week I can eat what I want and really like (damn diet!), even sweets and cakes. A new shop is appeared near the Zoo-house, and the look of its cupcakes was so awesome that we bought some.

My personal taster Pepe (actually just a sniffer) was very interested by the caramel one…and he was pretty right.

…Sunday is definitely my day.

Birthday gifts

One of the best birthday gifts I ever received is arrived unexpected by mail.
My Dutch friend Jolette is a teacher and she asked her pupils to remake one of my illustrations using their own pets or their favourite pets. They all did such a really good job!
Thank you very much.

It’s so fun to see your own work spoofed by such young artists :)

Zoo Invasion: Gabby from Shanghai

It’s an hot summer Sunday, a bit blue I’m dreaming of a huuuge cup of ice-cream hypnotized by “Running up that hill” by Placebo, I’m thinking how much a life can change in just a sec…a scheduled day of fun with friends left you breathless; a missing glance and a smile turns off.

It reminds of Shakespeare saying:

Expectation is the root of all heartache

But any day brings a little joy to chasing eyes. Here’s the lovely Gabby showing a Zoo card. Thank you Gabrielle!

Placebo – Running Up That Hill LYRICS

Hide and seek

Sometimes one of your cats seem to be simply vanished.
You look all over but nothing, he’s not around. So you start looking in any lower/higher place, nothing.
Then you start thinking “did I open the house door?”, “may alien’s abductions be real?”, “may cats disappear without a trace as socks in the washing machine?”…and while your anxiety grows fast, you start calling the missing pet hoping he will be so kind to show himself…nothing (of course) …you reach out and reach out, involving all family members in this crazy hunt, until you will find the pet quietly staring at you…humans should look so bizarre to their eyes!

Next time I’ll try in a different way, considering the universal truth  that cats don’t want to be there when you look for them (annoying humans!), but they ABSOLUTELY want be there when they feel you want exclude them, I got the only way to make your cats show themselves before having an heart attack is starting doing something you want to do completely ALONE…somehow they feel it, even at distance, and they will magically appear.

Zoo invades South Carolina (USA)

I’m so happy today!!
Nothing is better after being sick (yuck!) than find an email with a picture attached for my section “Zoo Invasion”.
Zoo postcard is not easy to be recognized as it is the quite dark  “Milky Way”, but Carol Beth you really made my day…Zoo loves you ♥♥

So, this is the right moment to propose you a deal:
1- Check my postcards gallery here on my blog or on Flickr
2- Chose your favourite one and then email me (nextlolaAThotmail.it) the name of the postcard you would like to receive and your home address
3- I will send you a copy of it by mail
4- In change, once you’ll receive it,  you’ll email me a picture of you (your room, your dog, your ferret or whatelse) with my Zoo postcard inside

Then I’ll try to find one of those widgets where you can pin places on Earth, and then pin every city from where I’ll receive a picture. I hope to see the “invasion” grow fast.

If you don’t want to do it for me, please imagine the sad eyes of one of my lovely pets staring at you beggin’ for your pic :)

Inspiration

Today I’ve been asked if I’m going to make other postcards inspired by famous artists and their works…the answer is ABSOLUTELY YES!

I don’t know yet who’ll be the next one…you can’t plan inspiration, it just suddenly takes you  to bring you where it wants…that’s how it happens with Klimt’s artworks, one day I woke up and I just couldn’t resist to make those three illustrations…not matter what was already scheduled, my soul just refused to do anything else.

I surely already have some ideas I hope to realize as soon as possible, as to remake at least one illustration from the works of: Edward Hopper, Alphonse Mucha, Tamara de Lempicka, the Pre-Raphaelites Brootherhood…. although I am not sure yet if my style will match well with these great painters’ styles.

But, if I could start a new art illustration right now it will very probably be “Marcella” (1910) by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. He his one of my favourites painters, and I still remember the joy of finally finding (it was a very long treasure hunt, especially if you don’t have any sense of direction and you’re moving in a huge foreign city) and visiting the “Brücke-Museum” in Berlin…the effort was worth it because I came home with a fabulous Marcella tote bag.

I love the idea to confront myself with such a powerlful image, and such vibrant colors.

From Wikipedia:

Die Brücke
(The Bridge) was a group of German expressionist artists formed in Dresden in 1905, after which the Brücke Museum in Berlin was named. Founding members were Fritz Bleyl, Erich Heckel, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff. Later members were Emil Nolde, Max Pechstein and Otto Mueller. The seminal group had a major impact on the evolution of modern art in the 20th century and the creation of expressionism.

Die Brücke is sometimes compared to the Fauves. Both movements shared interests in primitivist art. Both shared an interest in the expressing of extreme emotion through high-keyed color that was very often non-naturalistic. Both movements employed a drawing technique that was crude, and both groups shared an antipathy to complete abstraction. The Die Brücke artists’ emotionally agitated paintings of city streets and sexually charged events transpiring in country settings make their French counterparts, the Fauves, seem tame by comparison.

Ink spots

It’s a raining Friday evening, sky’s completely white, wind’s blowing and a seagull’s flying free above my head…it make me wonder of a perfect life.

Today a perfect life is strictly connected to a perfect bow window to sit on and read a good book, with Asia beside me and Alice on my lap, the notes of a Do Wop song are in the air and a cup of warm tea is waiting for me. I watch outside and see trees shaked by the breeze…the view of the rough sea of the Gulf isn’t too far away.

Actually the view from my window isn’t so exciting, the Gulf isn’t far away but not visible from here, I can’t drink tea for a while, the book I am reading is a thriller about a serial killer (not exactly Pride and Prejudice)…but Asia is sleeping beside me and Alice on my lap and thank Youtube The Ink Spots are singing for me.

At least ink spots are not just something an illustrator fears.

Ink Spots – If I Didn’t Care

Lollipop shopper bag

In this cold sunny day pets are all sleeping under a blanket or behind a stove, I would love to be inspired by them but at least one in this Zoo SHOULD work!

It took me an hour to find the words for a new listing on Etsy and DaWanda…yuck! And that’s a shame because my brand new shopper bags look pretty awesome. This is just the first of them, if you like it don’t miss my next posts, I will show you one by one, just to tease you :)
Tote shopper bag’s ideal for grocery, shopping, books, reuse & recycle…it would also be a beautiful, inspirational and useful “green” gift.
Quote is absolutely perfect…too busy in our frantic daily lives we forget too often how much this is true:

A day without a laughter
is a day wasted

Portraits

My friend Maura came back to Napoli once again last weekend and she did a new lovely portrait of one of the members of the Zoo, Alice.

Who will be the next one?
